I'm pretty happy with my final product. I think I did a good job communicating a story and it's pretty easy to understand. That being said, I do wish I made the images a little more complex to challenge myself. The illustrator images are pretty simple, which made it easy to communicate what I wanted to say, but they also didn't challenge me a whole lot. My process for this zine changed a bit as I progressed. Initially I was struggling with ideas and didn't have full stories made out in my head. So as soon as I had even just a bit of an idea of what I wanted to do for the first story, I began to create this image:
Once I started working on this image, more ideas started to come and a story line began to form in my head. From there, I created more images for the first story. I don't usually prefer this approach because I'm a very detailed oriented person and like to have everything planned out before I start doing it. But in this case, it actually helped to not move forward without a solid plan.
Story #1 images:
For the second story, I came up with the story itself first, and then brought it to life in Illustrator and Photoshop.
Story #2 images:
With both of the stories, I made pretty simple drawings in Illustrator and I feel I challenged myself more with the Photoshop images. Although overall I did a good job communicating what I wanted to communicate, I feel I could have challenged myself more in creating a couple complex images.
I still feel I learned a lot from this project. Not only did I learn more about Illustrator and Photoshop, but I was also reminded of the fact that I don't need to have everything perfectly planned out before starting a project.
Here are the front and back covers:
This is the my final zine after making some minor changes suggested in critiques "Project1.Zine3.0Final."
